ECM Implementations double in the UK
As a nation we love statistics, be it the latest rich list, the Fortune 100 or the statistics to show who is using what, when, why or how. Statistics remain an important measure to determine a level of success, whether it is an individuals’ or how many people are adopting document and content management systems. According to a recent survey by AIIM Europe (www.aiim.org) in the UK, the number of organisations that have implemented document and content management systems has doubled in the past two years.
The survey gathered responses from over 150 organisations in the UK and results indicated that 29% are implementing a document and content management system. This is an increase of almost 100% since 2005. An additional 19% plan to start adding systems across their departments, up from 13% two years ago, with only 13% cutting back on spending in these areas.
The survey revealed that the biggest challenge for organisations attempting to adopt change in their document and content managements systems remains getting the sign-off from above, with 27% claiming that upper management remain the bottleneck. It is not surprising then that change doesn't always come easily or quickly and that most Enterprise Content Management (ECM) projects register on the “significant” side of the cost scale. Even so, the adoption rate in the UK is on line with the US.
